FUNERAL INVITATIONS
GILDEA - The relatives and friends of Mr. and
Mrs. Neil Gildea are invited to attend the funeral of their daughter, Florence
Gildea, from residence, No. 514 Bryan street, east, this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.
Services will be conducted at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 4 o'clock.

records indicate her last residence was Tybee Island. There
was a sanitorium there at the time so she may have had a long
term, possibly contagious, illness. Florence is buried in Cathedral
Cemetery.

Gildea, 80, of Savannah Parish Dies
The funeral of Neil Gildea, one of the oldest as well as one
of the best known Catholics in Savannah, died here early in May at the age of
80. Born in Donegal, Ireland, he had lived in Savannah 50 years; he was ill but
four weeks before his death. Years ago he operated the old Alahambra Music Hall.
The funeral was held from the Church of the Blessed Sacrament
with a Requiem Mass. Interment was in Cathedral Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Col. Sheftall B. Coleman, James T. McKenna, Edward Lyons, George
Cleary, Henry Cramer, and C. G. Flynn. Surviving Mr. Gildea are four daughters,
Miss Mary Gildea, Mrs. John Fischer, Miss Florence Gildea and Miss Elizabeth Gildea,
Savannah; five sons, Edward Gildea, New York, Joseph Gildea, Francis J. Gildea,
Benjamin J. Gildea and James F. Gildea, Savannah; a sister, Mrs. Catherine O'Brien,

GILDEA IS DEAD AT 80 YEARS
Was Widely Known and Popular Savannahian
Neil Gildea, 80 years of age, died at 5:30 o'clock
yesterday afternoon at his residence, 706 East Henry street, after an illness
of four weeks. He was a native of Donegal Ireland but had been a resident of Savannah
for the last fifty years. Mr. Gildea was one of Savannah's
best known citizens. Years ago he operated the old Alhambra music hall in Broughton
street and became widely known and popular in many circles. He had a number of
staunch friends and had many generous parts.
Surviving are four daughters, Miss Mary
Gildea, Mrs. John Fischer, Miss Florence Gildea and Miss Elizabeth
Gildea, all of Savannah; five sons, Edward C. Gildea, New York City;
Joseph A. Gildea, Francis J. Gildea, Benjamin J. Gildea and James
F. Gildea, of Savannah; one sister, Mrs. Catherine O'Brien, Philadelphia,
and five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements
were incomplete late last night, but the funeral will be held Monday, with burial
in the Catholic Cemetery. Services will be conducted
from the residence and at the Blessed Sacrament Church.. Savannah Morning

Benjamin J. Gildea. Benjamin
J. Gildea, son of the late Neil Gildea, died last evening at 7:30 o'clock at a
local hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Savannah, born twenty-seven
years ago last November 30. Mr. Gildea is survived by four sisters, Mrs. John
G.Fischer, and Misses Mary and Florence Gildea, of Savannah, and Sister Mary Daria
of Baltimore, Md.; four brothers, Edward C. Gildea of New York, N.Y., and Joseph
A., Francis J., and James F. Gildea, of Savannah, as well as several aunts and
uncles living here. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church and services
will be held from that church. Burial will be in the Cathedral
Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are not yet complete. He lived at 706 East

Funeral services and burial for E. C. Gildea, former resident
of Savannah, who died in New York Saturday night after a long illness, will be
held there sometime tomorrow. He is survived by his
wife Mrs. Augusta M. Gildea; one son, Edward C. Gildea, Jr., four sisters, Mrs.
Catherine G. Fisher [sic] Miss Mary Gildea, Miss Florence Gildea, and Sister Mary
Daria, R.S.M.; two brothers, Francis J. and James F. Gildea, and several nieces

Florence E. Gildea
Miss Florence E. Gildea, 81, died Saturday at Oceanside Nursing
Center after a long illness. A native of Savannah,
she served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4392 and American Legion Post
154. Surviving are a sister, Sister Mary Daria Gildea,
R.S.M., of Savannah; four nephews, John H. Fischer, Neil J. Fischer, Francis J.
Fischer and Charles E. Fischer; and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces.
Rosary service: 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lester L. Hayman Funeral
Home chapel.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter
the Apostle Catholic Church, burial in the Catholic
Cemetery. Savannah
