According to Uncle Anthony Gannam's Biography on Grandpa Karem Gannam, the family came from a "village called El-Amain just about three miles outside Sidon on a hillside called Ros Is Sharif."

Aleppo

According to his Passport, the Rochambeau Ship's Register and Naturalization papers filed in Troy New York in 1920, George left Aleppo, Syria, in May of 1920 as George Abdul Kerim and boarded the Rochambeau in Beruit. This is how the city looked aroud the time of George's departure for America.
