Asa O. Ivey

Asa Ivey, son of Milton Ivey and Elizabeth Jane Miranda Upton Ivey Travers, was a Police Officer in Savannah, Georgia, between 1920-1936 according to the Savannah City Directories 1920-1937.

Neil Fischer remembers his Great Uncle Asa in his navy blue heavy wool uniform coat walking his beat in Savannah.

The Police Barracks which was constructed 1869-1870 still stands on Liberty Street in Savannah.

James Milton Ivey

James Milton Ivey, son of Milton Ivey and Elizabeth Jane Miranda Upton Ivey Travers, worked many jobs in Savannah, especially in the saloons of Neil Gildea (his brother in law) and Owen Travers (his step father). In addition, the city directories indicate he was also a barber at 38 Bull Street. Proof of this was found in an advertisement in the program for the festivities surrounding the laying of the cornerstone for the new Savannah City Hall on August 11, 1904. The shop was apparently was on the outside of the Screven House Hotel, which Owen Travers managed for a time back in 1896.
