Fischer Homes

John Fischer and Catherine Gildea lived on East 33rd Street from 1926-1934. This is Daddy's childhood home. Daddy and I drove to see all the old places and found church group was working to repair and repaint the house for the elderly owner. Daddy went back and took them treats the next day.

Savannah City Directory shows that Neil and Mary Ann were living at 1115 East 42nd Street before buying the house below. Click on the link for a larger view of the property as of August 2010.

Neil, Mary Ann, Kim and Neil Fischer, Jr. called this house on Arlene Avenue home. Neil and I had a little table set in the kitchen with white wood top and black metal frame. I used to sit in Daddy's lap in a big chair and watch the Perry Como show. We had snow one winter and Mama and Daddy made us a treat with milk and sugar and snow. When Daddy and I visited the house to take this photo, I was shocked to see that the stairs on the left leading into the kitchen were just a few steps. I still have a vivid memory of those steps and they are really steep and high and I'm at the bottom afraid to climb up. The street has been combined with another and renamed 2316 Lorraine Drive. We moved from this house to Mayfair in 1958 just in time for Robert's birth.

All four children lived in this house in Mayfair at 1444 Marlborough Way. Neil, Robert and I walked to St. James School across the street. The new owners have enclosed the garage on the left. We moved in 1964 to Rt. 2, Box 44F, Walthour Road (now 1410 Walthour Road - in the middle of the lot) on Wilmington Island and then to Leesburg, Florida in June 1972. The new owners appear to have enclosed the garage and added a two car carport. Click on the addresses above to see how the houses look today.

1410 Walthour Road (Rt. 2, Box 44F)
Lot has been divided into three portions: street, middle (where our house is located) and marsh. They have enclosed the garage on the left and added a carport. The address is now 1410 Walthour Road.

Kim's Oaks and Rabbit Cages - 1967
The trees are no longer there, but they were imortalized in a painting by Philip Saraf which hangs in my home.
Mr. Valenti had the trees taken down after he bought the house when we moved to Florida in 1970. He also had a porch added to the back of the house off the family room, so he took down the other big oak that had been outside the bathroom window.
