Chatham County World War II Memorial
Dedication November 7, 2010

Chatham County Veterans Council's tribute to the men and women who served their country in World War II was dedicated on Sunday, November 7, 2010. There are finishing touches like landscaping that are yet to be completed, but the memorial is complete and much larger and impressive than I thought it would be..

Before the event, Mary Ann Saraf Fischer, Ashley Peters and Kim Fischer Peters visited the memorial and found the bricks honoring our family members. Links to images of the memorial and the bricks are below.

The memorial is an interpretation of the world split apart by war. There are eight granite panels (four on each side of the interior) protected by the overhang, on which are inscribed the names of all those who gave their lives in defense of our country. George Karam Gannam, son of Karam Gannam and Annie Abraham and brother of Anthony, Mary, Nazer and Michael Gannam is fifth name from the top on the second panel from the left on the left side.

Above the panels in the rounded portion of the globe are campaign medals from each of the theaters. The Purple Heart can be seen on the left section to the left of the four panels.

Bricks can still be purchased through the Chatham County Veterans Council to honor someone or in your name in support of the veterans. http://www.veteranscouncilofchathamcounty.com/
